03 · THE BASICS
What is dry ice logistics — and why it’s different
Dry ice is the only practical way to hold cargo at −70°C in transit. But it sublimates and it’s a dangerous good — so it takes calculation, not guesswork.
WHEN YOU NEED DRY ICE
- It must stay at −70°CDeep-frozen, not just refrigerated.
- Gel packs aren’t cold enoughReefers and PCMs can’t reach it.
- The haul is longTransit outlasts a single ice charge.
- mRNA, biologics or samplesCargo that fails if it thaws.
- It crosses DG rulesDry ice is a regulated hazard.
DRY ICE, IN FOUR FACTS
- −78.5°CFrozen CO₂ — far colder than any freezer.
- It sublimatesTurns straight to gas, so it must be replenished on long hauls.
- Class 9 DG (UN1845)Quantity limits, marking and a declaration apply.
- It needs ventingPackaging must let CO₂ escape safely.
04 · WHAT SHIPS
What we ship on dry ice — and the dry-ice service behind it
We don’t just move your deep-frozen cargo — we source, pack and replenish the dry ice that keeps it frozen.
WHAT WE SHIP ON DRY ICE
- mRNA vaccines−70°C vaccines and their components.
- Cell & gene therapyLiving therapies that can’t thaw.
- Biologics & reagentsEnzymes, antibodies and test kits.
- Lab & clinical samplesResearch and trial material.
- Frozen & specialty foodDeep-frozen high-value produce.
OUR DRY-ICE SERVICE
- Dry-ice sourcingReliable supply at origin, ready to pack.
- Qualified shippersBoxes validated to hold −70°C for the transit.

05 · THE DIFFERENCE
Deep-frozen done right — it never runs out
The failure mode is simple: the dry ice sublimates before delivery and the cargo thaws. We calculate, replenish and monitor so that never happens.
Qualified shippers
Packaging validated to hold −70°C for your transit time.
Calculated & replenished
The right quantity of dry ice, topped up at hubs en route.
UN1845 compliance
Correct DG quantity, marking, venting and declaration.
Safe venting & handling
CO₂ managed for the cargo, the aircraft and our staff.

Tell us the cargo and the lane — we’ll size the dry ice, plan replenishment and handle UN1845.
06 · PRICING
What drives dry ice shipping cost?
Dry ice adds cost for the coolant, the compliance and the replenishment. Here’s what shapes your quote — all visible.
Dry-ice quantity
The kilograms needed to hold −70°C for the transit.
Transit time & replenishment
Longer hauls need top-ups at hubs en route.
Qualified shipper
Validated packaging rated for deep-frozen.
DG handling (UN1845)
Class 9 declaration, marking and handling.
Mode & carrier limits
Aircraft dry-ice limits can shape the routing.
Monitoring & loggers
Temperature tracking on every shipment.
One all-in dry-ice quote
Dry ice, qualified packaging, replenishment and DG docs — priced together, nothing hidden.

08 · THE DIFFERENCE
One partner — dry ice, freight and compliance
Deep-frozen shipping fails when someone forgets the replenishment, under-packs the ice, or skips the UN1845 paperwork. We own all three.
UN1845 declaration
Class 9 dry-ice documentation, prepared and checked.
Qualified shipper spec
Validated packaging rated for your transit time.
Replenishment plan
Where and when the ice gets topped up en route.
Temperature data pack
Logger records for the full journey, on delivery.
IEC & pharma registrations
Import/export code and the licences your cargo needs.
Customs & clearance
Priority handling so deep-frozen cargo keeps moving.
Dry-ice supply, deep-frozen freight and DG compliance from one team — so it lands still frozen, every time.
09 · WHY US
Why deep-frozen shippers choose Masa Gaia
When a thaw destroys the cargo, shippers choose the partner who plans the ice — not just the flight:
−70°C, reliably
Sized and replenished so it never thaws.
DG-certified
UN1845 handled in-house, not outsourced.
Supply + freight
We source the dry ice and move the cargo.
Part of your cold chain
Plugs into cold chain and temperature-controlled.
“Our −70°C cell therapy landed in Europe still frozen solid — they’d planned a dry-ice top-up we hadn’t even thought of.”

Dry ice logistics FAQs
The questions pharma, biotech and lab shippers ask us most about dry ice.
Why use dry ice instead of gel packs or a reefer?
Gel packs and reefers can’t reach −70°C — they hold roughly 2–8°C or −20°C at best. Dry ice (frozen CO₂) sits at −78.5°C, which is why it’s the only practical option for mRNA vaccines, cell & gene therapy and deep-frozen samples.
