RoDTEP explained: claim what you're owed

RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) refunds embedded taxes and duties that don't get remitted through any other existing mechanism — think fuel duty on transport, electricity duty on production, and similar costs baked into the price of what you export.

The claim itself is folded into the shipping bill at the time of export: the RoDTEP option and rate are declared per line item, and the claim is processed by customs alongside the shipment rather than as a separate filing.

Getting the HS classification right at declaration time is what determines the rate you are entitled to — a wrong or generic classification is the most common reason a claim is lower than expected, or does not land as a scrip at all.
